Fla - Flu clasico at the Maracana

I went to the Maracana stadium with my Carioca chum Ricky and his pal Luiz.

It was the fla-flu clasico (flamengo vs fluminense) , the biggest derby game in Rio and poss Brazil, at the 100000 capacity maracana stadium.

It was crazy, even tho it was half full because 2nd string reserve team players being involved due to big copa liberatores (s america version of champions league) games next week.

Luiz is a big Flu fan so we stood right next to the drummers of the ´ýoung flu´ suppoerters. It was like a bloco, but in the stands!

At half time there was a power cut due to a massive lighting storm over the ground, and it pissed down with rain. Nobody thought the second half would be played but they just started partying instead. Very funny.

The power came back on and flamengo (the Man U of brazil) went 1-0 up with a scrappy goal, but despite being underdogs fluminense (the Man City of Brazil) fought back and won 4-1. One player scored a hatrick and two amazing freekicks from 30 yards out. i am sure he is a legend to the Flu fans now. The atmosphere was crazy! The funniest bit was when the whole Flu crowd were grinding in unison to a bale funk tune on the drums.
