You will all remember the Tsunami from Boxing Day 2004. We are now in Khao Lak, Thailand, one of the areas worst hit. It's been amazing to see how quickly things are getting back to normal here. The houses, bars and hotels have been rebuilt and the tourists are coming back which is fantastic to see.
Amazing work has been carried out by The Tsunami Volunteer Center, a Thai-led tsunami relief organization. It was started by the Mirror Foundation, a non-governmental Thai organization, shortly after the disaster.
We have got involved with work being carried out by the Tsunami Volunteer Centre’s Education Project. Their first task after the tsunami was to bring smiles back into schools traumatised by loss and bereavement. The task now is to raise the level of English speaking skills in communities which lost 75% of the English speaking Thai people. This is being achieved through teaching projects in schools and orphanages in the area and drop-in teaching classes for adults at a bar in town called The Lazy House.
We have been really impressed by the work being carried out here by genuine well meaning people. It's also been alot of fun. The kids are amazing. Khao Lak is also a beautiul area to be staying in for a while. Check out http://www.amazingkhaolak.com/
Please pass on the details below to anyone who is travelling in SE Asia, or fancies going out to Thailand to help. They really need volunteers to continue the community projects that they are running. Sparing as even as little of your time as a week or two can make a big difference.

They want your time and help, not just your money like so many of the organisations we have encountered on our travels.
